About the 2026 Calendar
Reflections from Bell Pitkin, curator the 2026 Sinister Wisdomcalendar:

In 2026, Sinister Wisdom will celebrate its 50th birthday. To honor this milestone, I approached the curation of the calendar differently than in past years. I was interested in pairing artists from Sinister Wisdom’s early history with artists just emerging within our community.

To do this, I spent time with as many back issues of the journal as I could find, immersing themself in the beautiful visions that have filled its pages since its inception in 1976. Visual art has always been central to the journal’s heart, bold covers, illustrations, and photographs interrupt and transform the writing and poetry that makes up the majority of every issue.

This year’s calendar pays homage to that history by bringing earlier contributors into dialogue with artists featured in recent issues, events, and calendars. This intergenerational approach felt vital to me. Bell wanted to celebrate the past, the present, and the future, revealing how ideas, aesthetics, and material considerations are repeated through time and across generational boundaries.

Thank you!

Sinister Wisdom prints the calendars at PrintingCenterUSA. We appreciate their labor and attention to detail with all kinds of printing projects and encourage others to use the business for your printing needs.
